What is CaptureMAX?
CaptureMAX is a fully featured professional webcam application used to broadcast images to the internet or to create home videos or time-lapse videos.

What CaptureMAX Isn't..
CaptureMAX isn't a program for the family to send photos to their relatives (although YOU CAN use CaptureMAX for this). CaptureMAX was created because most out-of-the box webcam applications did not provide sufficient functionality or stability to run a full-time webcam. CaptureMAX was designed for the 'power-user' who needs a real application that can handle the many variables involved in running a full-time webcam.

Will CaptureMAX Do Streaming Video To My Website?
No, the current version of CaptureMAX does not provide streaming video support. There are many reasons for this, most important of which is that most streaming video applications require software to be installed on the web server itself.

Future versions of CaptureMAX will have some sort of streaming support, but this functionality is not included in the current version.

What Are Some Things CaptureMAX has Been Used For?
A few examples are:

  • CaptureMAX is used to operate Multiple 'Bar-Cams' in Dayton ohio, These cams have no keyboard or monitor and are managed from a remote location..
  • CaptureMAX was used to capture a world record for the Longest Bartending Shift in The World. This made The Guinness Book of World Records and was managed remotely by us from Eugene, OR, only 3000 miles away. Read About It Here
  • CaptureMAX is used to monitor portions of an electron accelerator at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
  • A beta version of CaptureMAX (using motion detection) captured the faces of 2 burglar attempting to burglarize a home office in Flagstaff, Arizona. These captures were later used by police to catch the crooks and recover $4000 in stolen property Including the computer CaptureMAX was running on. Unfortunately the thieves didn't think to FTP to the website to delete the archived photos!

What Can I Use CaptureMAX For?
There are thousands of uses for a webcam, a few ideas are:

  • View your home or office from anywhere in the world.
  • Liven up your web-site on the Web.
  • Watch your pets while at work.
  • Let distant family members take part in your life.
  • Promote your business or services.
  • Monitor progress at construction sites.
  • Set up an outdoor traffic cam.
  • Set up a child monitor in your home, pre-schools or company child care facilities.

Will it work with my Camera?
Windows will recognize all practically all PC cameras as a WDM (Windows Driver Model) device or a VFW (Video For Windows) Device. VFW is now obsolete but it is still supported by all versions of Windows. It is a good idea to find out if your camera supports one of these standards before you buy it, as a standards compliant camera will provide you with the most flexibility in the long run and is supported by CaptureMAX. If your camera does not support one of these standards, It cannot be used with CaptureMAX.

What Happened To CaptureMAX Lite
CaptureMAX Lite was a leaner version of CaptureMAX with fewer features. CaptureMAX lite was based on the 1.1.x code base and it was decided to retire the older code base instead of converting it to the 2.5 codebase which relies heavily on DirectX technology.

Can I connect more than one webcam to my computer with CaptureMAX PRO?
This depends on your camera. If your camera is capable of multiple cameras in one machine you can setup separate profiles for each camera. Then in you can run CaptureMAX with a few command line switches to load the correct camera and configuration profile. For Example:

Run CaptureMAX with the configuration profile called MAIN PROFILE with camera device #2:
CaptureMAX /d:2 /p:MAIN PROFILE

Run CaptureMAX with the configuration profile called Default Profile with camera device #1
CaptureMAX /d:1 /p:Default Profile

If you wanted CaptureMAX to send both camera captures to your webserver at the same time you could configure your main profile to run an external program after each capture (This is under OPTIONS). Your external program may look like:
CaptureMAX /d:2 /p:Cam2 Profile
/w:30

The additional /w:10 parameter tells CaptureMAX to wait 10 seconds and then run a capture and exit. The 30 second delay is good for cameras that need to auto-adjust. if your camera does not need to auto-adjust you could just use the /c parameter which does a capture then exits with no delay.
